Deciduous shrub to small tree, often multi-stemmed, with kidney-shaped , bluish-green leaves, to 4-inches long that have rounded or notched tips, bronze at first, turning yellow in autumn. Dark purple-pink flowers, to 1/2-inch across, are borne in clusters of 5 or 6, usually on year-old wood before the leaves.
