Name: Tricolor Sage
Latin Name: Salvia officinalis 'Tricolor'
Exposure: Full Sun to Light Shade
Soil: Well-drained, Some Sand to Loamy Clay
Zone: 6-9
Tolerance: Drought
A shrubby evergreen perennial with many branched stems and velvety grey-green, cream, and purple leaves about 2-inches long. Irregular pattern of color variegation in the leaves is stunning in the garden. In early to mid-summer, it sends up lavender-purple flower spikes. A shady afternoon spot in areas that get very hot in the summer will help this sage from burning on the margins. While Garden Sages are generally water conserving, they look best and live longest when well hydrated in the summer, but they require well-drained soil.
