A succulent perennial with fleshy, somewhat spoon-shaped, basal leaves in a rosette. Flowering stems with dainty, striking pink, yellow, burgundy and white flowers appear in late spring. Rosettes are low and narrow with flower stalks up to 12-inches in height. It prefers stony ground and rocky crevices as well as acidic soil conditions. Lewisia is excellent for filling in spaces in rock gardens and walls but must have good drainage around root crowns to prevent rot.
